The latter-half of the of the 2000s served to be not only a formative time for my own taste in music, but also a renaissance period for independent music, all thanks to the internet (specifically MySpace.) The majority of the songs compiled together on this soundtrack I collected during the period of 2005 to 2016 from musicians I found through social media, or knew in person; though I never immediately intended to utilize them in a film, somewhere in the back of mind I’m sure I realized a lot of these tracks would end up together. I’d be ignorant to not admit that this soundtrack is as autobiographical as the film itself. Many of the artists on this album are from my hometown of Bradenton, Florida (or our neighbor, Sarasota) where the film is set. You may find that a few of the songs on here do not appear in the final film—some were inspirations during the process, and give the soundtrack its own fluidity as a standalone album. The consideration and generosity of all the musicians who allowed their music to be included in Monty Comes Back and on this soundtrack is not only greatly cherished, but represents how the film was made in whole—with support from a community of friends and family who genuinely care about art, in all its forms. I hope this album not only inspires listeners to listen to more music by the bands represented, but to never turn a deaf ear—always be listening for sounds that you won’t let out of your head.
